Excessive Sweating

Hyperhidrosis is abnormally severe and excessive sweatiness of the underarms, forehead, and hands that are unrelated to heat or exercise. It is an overreaction of the sweat glands. It can be triggered by medical conditions or anxiety. Some people who experience hyperhidrosis will sweat through their clothing. In 2004, Shapero Dermatology was one of the first dermatology centres in Canada to introduce the use of Botox for people suffering from hyperhidrosis and has been one of the largest centres in Canada for treating hyperhidrosis.

The minimization of discomfort has always been most important to us. We employ the use of very thin (fine gauge) needles, especially imported from the United States, and the use of ice and dynamic vibration for the hands.

Sweat mapping is done before every underarm procedure to outline the area of sweatiness so that unnecessary areas are not treated, and the dosage can be minimized.

Highly concentrated topical aluminum chloride, and the gold standard, injectable botulinum toxoid.

Consultation for hyperhidrosis is free (covered by OHIP) and the treatment of hyperhidrosis is often largely covered by third-party insurance.
